Joeypa Battery Isolator Combo

Found this battery isolator from the local internet. My plan is to hook up the old battery that I recently replaced and use it for BOV camping. I found this piece of hardware rather interesting is that you can hook up to Solar panel if you have one. Also you are able to use it with multiply batteries.

The concept of this isolator

  • Charge Aux battery when engine is running
  • Isolate Aux and Main battery when engine is off
  • Isolate Main battery when Aux battery is in use
  • Charge up Main battery thru Aux if the Main battery is weak

Packaging comes with cables, connectors and instruction

Bottom 2 connection is to main battery, upper left connection to aux battery and lower left to Solar panel

Bought 3m extra cables of battery connection, red (+) wire 8AWG and the black (-) 10AWG

Bought extra connectors and crimp them myself

After the wires are connected for test, started the engine and the red lamp lighted. This is an indication that the Aux battery is being charged. When the lamp is off, the batteries are isolated from one another.

Using the supplied cable ty, I secured it to the battery holder.

Cable routing at the rear of the front passenger seat. The Aux (-) cable is connected to the van body

To check if the battery is charging properly, I use a digital volt meter display thru a cigarette charger.

13.3V charging on the Aux battery. Seems all is going well.

This is the first step of installing the battery isolator, the next step of my plan is to use the existing cigarette lighter port on the driver and a switch to the Aux battery. When the engine is off, there is no power supply to the driver's cigarette lighter port. The ideal is to run a wire to the cigarette lighter port and install a switch to on/off the Aux battery when the engine is off. This will be my main switch for the aux battery.
